Afghan women’s refugee team to participate in FIFA tournaments

Afghan Women United, a women’s refugee football team, has been granted eligibility to compete in international competitions, including the 2028 LA Olympics, following a decision by the FIFA Council. This recognition comes nearly five years after the players fled Taliban rule in Afghanistan. The team had previously participated in tournaments in Morocco and has received support from human rights advocates. FIFA President Gianni Infantino emphasized the importance of this initiative for teams unable to represent their nations.
