Three former residents of the Brothers of Charity Residential School at Lota near Glanmire in Cork endured severe abuse, with a judge likening it to “permanent crucifixion” during sentencing of an elderly cleric. A scoping inquiry report revealed 166 allegations of child sex abuse involving 50 alleged abusers at the school, making it the most extensive case in the Government’s report on child abuse at religious-run schools.
