South Korean lawmakers provide update on estimated casualties following briefing by country’s intelligence agency.
South Korean lawmakers reported that approximately 600 North Korean soldiers have been killed in Russia’s war in Ukraine, with total casualties reaching an estimated 4,700, according to the National Intelligence Service (NIS). This update follows North Korea’s confirmation of troop deployment, where leader Kim Jong Un stated the goal was to aid Russia against Ukrainian forces. The NIS estimates that around 15,000 North Korean soldiers have been sent, and their combat capabilities have reportedly improved with new weaponry and technical support received from Russia.
