An office worker at Auckland Steam ’N Dry, Shania Mortimer, was awarded over $30,000 after being unjustly dismissed just 15 days into her job. The Employment Relations Authority found that she was not provided with proper training or notice, as her director, Graeme Stephens, reduced her notice period when reminded of her entitlement. Mortimer struggled to support her child and applied for over 60 jobs after her termination. The ERA’s decision highlighted the lack of structured onboarding she received.
