Former MSNBC host Mehdi Hasan criticized The New York Times for not adequately representing the ideological left of the country, accusing the paper of focusing more on conservative viewpoints. Hasan emphasized the importance of diversity of viewpoints at his start-up news brand Zeteo, which he launched after leaving MSNBC, highlighting the inclusion of voices from the left, center left, and liberal left. Hasan left MSNBC in January 2024 following the cancelation of his show, where he was known for his sharp criticism of Israel’s response to a Hamas terrorist attack and its ongoing war in Gaza.
