Sudan facing ‘the abyss’ as mass starvation looms, UN warns

More than 600,000 people in Sudan are facing starvation as famine spreads across the country, with five areas already affected. The UN warns that famine could hit five more areas in the next three months, with 17 others at risk, calling it the “world’s largest humanitarian catastrophe”. The ongoing war has displaced over 12 million people, with the health system strained and outbreaks of cholera causing further devastation.
