Ex-Church of England leader could be disciplined over handling of abuse claims

Former Archbishop of Canterbury George Carey and nine other clergy members are facing potential disciplinary action over mishandling of sexual abuse allegations within the Church of England. An independent report revealed that Carey allowed a banned priest accused of sexual abuse, Rev. David Tudor, to return to priesthood in the 1990s. The church is also addressing failures in handling abuse cases involving volunteer John Smyth, who targeted over 100 young boys and men, with former head Justin Welby resigning last year for failing to report allegations to the police.
