A Japanese court sentenced Ryuji Kimura to 10 years in prison for throwing a homemade pipe bomb at former Prime Minister Fumio Kishida during a 2023 campaign event in Wakayama. Kimura was found guilty of attempted murder and other crimes, with the court ruling that he was aware of the potential for a fatality in the attack. Despite claiming he didn’t intend to kill Kishida, prosecutors argued that Kimura had a murder intent due to the potentially lethal nature of the bomb.
