On February 2, 2025, large-scale protests erupted in 22 Indonesian cities against Israel’s actions in Gaza, with over 15,000 demonstrators in Surabaya under the Aliansi Muslim Bela Palestina. The protests, influenced by Hizb ut-Tahrir Indonesia, aimed to promote the Caliphate as a solution to the conflict and were part of a broader strategy by HTI to capitalize on geopolitical crises. Despite being banned in 2017, HTI continues to mobilize support through protests and digital campaigns, framing the Gaza conflict as evidence of the failure of nation-states and the need for a global Islamic government.
