U.S. and Ukraine could still secure minerals deal that is 'positive' for both sides, officials say

U.S. President Donald Trump’s bid to secure access to Ukraine’s rare earth minerals was rejected by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who deemed the proposal too focused on U.S. interests. Zelenskyy stated that the offer lacked specific security guarantees for Ukraine, leading him to prevent his ministers from signing the agreement. Despite the setback, there is potential for negotiations at the Munich Security Conference to reach a mutually acceptable deal, with U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham calling the possible minerals agreement a “game changer” in resolving the conflict and a threat to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
