Under proposed amendments to the Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill, psychiatrists and social workers may be involved in approving assisted dying applications alongside two doctors and a High Court judge. Labour MP Kim Leadbeater is spearheading the legislation, which is set for detailed scrutiny by 23 MPs over the coming weeks. Leadbeater’s proposed judge-led Voluntary Assisted Dying Commission would introduce a more rigorous process, with a panel chaired by a senior legal figure overseeing applications and reports from independent doctors.
