John Travolta was originally meant to play the iconic role of Forrest Gump in the 1994 hit film, but turned it down to star in Pulp Fiction. Tom Hanks ultimately took on the role and went on to win the Best Actor award at the 1995 Academy Awards. Travolta also passed on roles in Splash and Apollo 13, which Hanks later accepted, attributing the near-misses to the competitive nature of the industry during the ’70s.
