UN says the death toll in fighting in the eastern Congo city of Goma is at least 900

Last week’s fighting in Goma, Congo, between government forces and Rwanda-backed M23 rebels resulted in at least 900 deaths and nearly 2,900 injuries, surpassing the previously reported death toll of 773 according to the World Health Organization. The rebels, supported by 4,000 troops from Rwanda, seized control of the city, highlighting the ongoing conflict in the mineral-rich east of Congo where various armed groups are competing for power.
