Pakistani journalists protest after Senate passes bill allowing control over social media content

Pakistan’s upper house of parliament passed a controversial bill granting the government powers to suppress freedom of speech on social media, with fines and imprisonment for spreading disinformation. Journalists rallied against the bill in major cities, while the Senate’s approval clears the way for President Asif Ali Zardari to sign it into law.
