The Graffitistraatje (Werregarenstraatje) in Ghent has been transformed into a pedestrian-only street, with support from Senator Stephanie D’Hose and Alderman Joris Vandenbroucke to prevent accidents between walkers and cyclists. The street, known for its vibrant graffiti and street art, has become a popular spot for tourists and guided tours, leading to safety concerns due to the increase in pedestrians and cyclists. As a response, the city of Ghent has decided to make the Graffitistraatje a bicycle-free zone to ensure visitors can enjoy the artwork without worrying about bike traffic, along with plans to address traffic issues in other busy areas.
