Vice President-elect JD Vance stated that peaceful protesters on Jan. 6 should be pardoned if treated unfairly by the Department of Justice, while those who committed violence should not. This differs from President-elect Donald Trump’s plan to pardon all rioters on his first day in office, including those guilty of assaulting police officers.
