In October, we visited the Cabo Delgado Province in Mozambique to investigate the rise of ISIS-Mozambique and the devastation caused by their attacks, displacing thousands and disrupting daily life. The insurgency, now weakened but still active, began in Mocimboa da Praia in 2017, fueled by resentment towards the government and fueled by natural resource wealth. Civilians have suffered from both the insurgents’ brutal tactics and the government’s violence, creating a displacement crisis and a sense of mistrust towards both parties.
