Moldova’s breakaway region of Transnistria is facing a severe energy crisis due to the termination of a gas transit agreement between Russia and Ukraine. With Russian gas supplies halted, hundreds of thousands of people in Transnistria are at risk of being left without heating or power during the winter months. Moldova, along with Slovakia and Austria, declared a state of emergency over energy security concerns following the cessation of Russian gas supplies.
