Schools given £740m to adapt buildings for Send pupils

The government has allocated £740m to mainstream schools in England to increase places for pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (Send) by adapting buildings for accessibility. Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson acknowledges the need for reform in the Send system, as highlighted by the National Audit Office, and emphasizes the importance of providing the right specialist support for Send pupils to flourish in mainstream education. The funding will be used to create SEN units and adapt classrooms to deliver intensive specialist support, aiming to ensure children with Send can attend school closer to home and remain in mainstream education.
