Alabama Sen. Katie Britt delivered the Republican response to President Joe Biden’s State of the Union address on Thursday night. In her speech, she countered Biden’s criticisms of the GOP and his self-congratulatory remarks by painting a bleak picture of the country under his leadership, while offering a different vision under the Republican Party.
Speaking from her kitchen table in Montgomery, Alabama, the 42-year-old mother of two focused on the challenges facing everyday Americans.
Britt expressed concern about the future of the nation, stating, “The country we know and love appears to be slipping away, with the next generation facing fewer opportunities and less freedoms than we did. I fear that my own children may not have the chance to pursue their American dream.”
She described the current American dream as a “nightmare.”
Highlighting the struggles of American families, Britt emphasized her support for in vitro fertilization (IVF) and the GOP’s commitment to providing opportunities for parents and children to thrive. She stated, “We stand for hardworking parents and families who want to grow and succeed. That’s why we advocate for continued access to IVF nationwide, to help parents bring new life into the world.”
While Britt’s speech focused on policy critiques, she also took direct shots at President Biden.
