Trudeau gov’t tripled annual spending on Indigenous issues: Report

A study by the Fraser Institute found that despite the Trudeau government tripling its spending on Indigenous issues to over $32 billion, the lives of on-reserve Indigenous people do not appear to be improving. The most effective program has been the Canada Child Benefit, which has helped reduce the gap in standard of living between First Nations families on reserves and other Canadian families. However, there are questions about where the rest of the federal money allocated for Indigenous issues is going, especially as the government has not fulfilled promises such as ending drinking water advisories on First Nations reserves.
