Trump's Team Is 'Outright Hostile' Towards UK's Chagos Islands Deal, Farage Says

Nigel Farage suggested that Trump’s incoming administration has “outright hostility” towards the UK’s deal to hand over the Chagos Islands to Mauritius, which was praised by Biden as a “historic agreement”. Farage claimed that the next administration, including defense secretary Pete Hegseth, is opposed to the deal due to concerns over Diego Garcia’s strategic importance, and may veto it over global security fears. However, Foreign Office minister Stephen Doughty disagreed, stating that the deal was necessary to secure the operation of the military base and that he is confident that once the Trump administration is fully briefed, any concerns will be allayed.
