A beloved Elvis impersonator, Bernie Peri, 75, was allegedly murdered in his Parkes home by 28-year-old Marshall Karaitiana, who was arrested in Tullamore and charged with murder. Peri, a staple of Parkes’s annual Elvis Festival since 1993, was described as a top bloke and a beloved friend by locals and representatives of the Royal Hotel. Karaitiana appeared in court and did not apply for bail, as the town mourns the loss of a key figure in the festival that brings in millions of dollars annually.
