In September 2023, terror suspect Daniel Khalife escaped from HMP Wandsworth by strapping himself to a food catering truck with a makeshift sling made from kitchen trousers. Despite his efforts to avoid “sex offenders” and “terrorists,” Khalife was recaptured with the help of police dogs, a helicopter, and officers searching back gardens. Khalife pleaded guilty to the escape, revealing his plan to feign an escape attempt in hopes of being moved to a high-security unit at HMP Belmarsh for his safety.
