Iran has sentenced three individuals to death for their involvement in the 2020 assassination of nuclear scientist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, with the case currently in the appeal stage after being processed in the Revolutionary Court of Urmia. The three individuals were accused of espionage and smuggling equipment to carry out the attack on Fakhrizadeh, who was killed in an ambush on a highway outside Tehran. The attack was blamed on Israel, with Fakhrizadeh under US sanctions for his role in Iran’s nuclear program, while Israel had previously accused him of leading Iran’s efforts to develop a nuclear bomb.
