City of Vancouver councillor Mike Klassen has decided to withdraw his request for $3,650 in funding to cover a trip to Halifax next month to attend the Juno Awards with mayor Ken Sim.
Last week, Vancouver Sun city columnist Dan Fumano reported that the funding request was going to be presented at the Feb. 27 council meeting.

Mayor Sim and a staff member are already planning to attend this year’s event for research purposes, as Vancouver is set to host the awards in 2025.

Sim’s expenses are being covered by the mayor’s office budget, whereas Klassen needed approval from the council to cover his expenses.
The Juno Awards is an annual event that celebrates Canadian music and takes place in different cities across the country each year, accompanied by various parties and events.
The estimated costs for Klassen’s trip included $1,885 for round-trip airfare, $895 for four nights of accommodation, $300 for ground transportation, $300 for Juno tickets, and a daily per diem of $60 for five days, totaling $3,650.
Klassen, a member of the city’s ruling ABC Vancouver party, stated that he was required in Halifax to learn from their city’s efforts to activate and energize for the Juno Awards.
As of Feb. 26, Klassen’s travel funding request was still on the council agenda for Tuesday but had been marked as “Withdrawn.”
