Algeria candidates question result of presidential vote

In Algeria’s presidential election, the two unsuccessful candidates challenged the voter turnout and results, alleging fraud, despite incumbent President Abdelmadjid Tebboune winning with nearly 95 percent of the vote. Islamist candidate Abdelaali Hassani, who conceded to Tebboune, criticized the process while acknowledging the landslide victory. The moderate Islamist party leader’s remarks came after the country’s electoral authority, ANIE, declared Tebboune the winner in Saturday’s ballot.
