Estrella expands manganese exploration in Timor-Leste with new discoveries

Estrella Resources has reported high-grade manganese discoveries in Timor-Leste, specifically at two new sites, Leuro and Sica, where rock-chip assays yielded grades up to 57.8 percent manganese. These findings bolster the company’s assertion that its flagship Ira Miri site may indicate a larger, district-wide mineralization potential. The sampling at Leuro revealed an average manganese grade of 34.6 percent, while Sica samples averaged 47.5 percent, with one location reaching 55.7 percent. The mineralization at these new prospects appears similar to that at Ira Miri, where a recent bulk sample confirmed high-grade material. Estrella has quickly progressed from initial drilling at Ira Miri, which began in May of the previous year, to significant extraction operations, with interest from multiple parties looking to purchase its manganese parcels.

Why It Matters

Estrella Resources is one of the few companies authorized to explore in Timor-Leste since the adoption of a modern mining code in 2021, making its discoveries particularly significant for the region’s mining sector. The Noni Formation, which hosts manganese at Ira Miri, suggests a potential for broader mineralization across Estrella’s concessions. The company’s rapid development from a greenfields discovery to a bulk extraction operation within a year reflects the growing importance of manganese in the global market, as demand for this essential mineral continues to rise due to its applications in steel production and battery technology. The upcoming geophysical surveys and ongoing interest from buyers indicate a robust future for Estrella’s manganese exploration efforts.
