US intelligence reports reveal Iran’s underground missile capabilities to Trump

US intelligence agencies have assessed that Iran has regained control of approximately 90 percent of its underground missile facilities, posing a significant challenge for the United States. This information was derived from classified evaluations that indicated Tehran has maintained a considerable portion of its missile arsenal despite prior claims by US officials of its military being “severely damaged.” The analysis revealed that around 90 percent of Iran’s underground storage and launch sites are currently operational, along with the restoration of access to 30 out of 33 missile sites near the strategic Strait of Hormuz. Furthermore, Iran reportedly retains about 70 percent of its mobile launch platforms and missile stockpile, showcasing its capability to deploy missiles quickly from both mobile platforms and fixed sites.

Why It Matters

The ability of Iran to maintain a robust missile program is critical given its geopolitical significance, particularly in the context of the Strait of Hormuz, a vital shipping route. Historical tensions between the US and Iran have often revolved around military capabilities and regional security dynamics. The restoration of Iran’s missile facilities highlights the challenges faced by the US in countering Iranian military capabilities, especially amidst ongoing conflicts in the region. Additionally, the intelligence assessments directly contradict public statements from US leaders regarding the effectiveness of sanctions and military strategies aimed at diminishing Iran’s military power.
