Nepal has protested against India for resuming a religious pilgrimage through the Lipulekh Pass, a contested area claimed by Nepal based on the 1816 Treaty of Sugauli. The Nepalese Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized its position that Limpiadhura, Lipulekh, and Kalapani are integral parts of Nepal. India, in response, stated that the pilgrimage has historical significance and dismissed Nepal’s territorial claims as unjustified. The pilgrimage, which includes 500 Hindu pilgrims, was suspended in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
