Anker has introduced its first AI chip, named “Thus,” designed for use in its small, wearable devices. The chip will debut in a new model of headphones at Anker Day on May 21. Thus is described as the first Compute-in-Memory (CIM) AI audio chip with neural network capabilities, integrating processing power directly into NOR flash memory cells for faster performance. This innovation is particularly suited for compact devices like headphones, which demand efficient power usage and space management while delivering features such as noise cancellation. One of the key features announced for the headphones is “Clear Calls,” which utilizes a neural network to enhance voice clarity in noisy environments through the use of eight MEMS microphones and two bone conduction sensors.

Why It Matters

The introduction of Anker’s Thus chip reflects a growing trend in the tech industry towards localized AI processing in consumer devices. Historically, integrating advanced AI capabilities in compact formats has presented significant challenges due to space and power constraints. By utilizing CIM technology, Anker aims to improve performance in small devices where traditional chips may struggle. As AI continues to be a pivotal component in enhancing user experience, advancements like Thus could set new standards for audio devices and influence future designs in the mobile accessories and IoT sectors.
