Tadej Pogačar has claimed victory at the Tour of Flanders for the third time, matching the record for the prestigious one-day race. Competing against top rivals, including Mathieu van der Poel, Pogačar made a decisive move on the Oude Kwaremont with 18 kilometers remaining, eventually extending his lead to finish 34 seconds ahead. With this win, Pogačar has solidified his status in cycling history, having also triumphed in Milan-San Remo earlier this year and secured victories in all three races he has entered this season. Remco Evenepoel finished third in his Tour of Flanders debut, while Demi Vollering won the women’s race for the first time, finishing ahead of Tour de France champion Pauline Ferrand-Prévot. The Tour of Flanders is known for its challenging course, featuring 16 climbs and cobblestone sections, and is considered one of cycling’s five “monuments.”

Why It Matters

Pogačar’s win at the Tour of Flanders highlights his dominance in professional cycling, as he now holds multiple prestigious titles in a single season. The Tour of Flanders, first held in 1913, is one of the most significant one-day races in cycling, alongside events like Milan-San Remo and Paris-Roubaix. With only Paris-Roubaix remaining as the last of the five “monuments” he has yet to win, Pogačar’s pursuit of a clean sweep marks a significant milestone in the sport. His consistent performance, including victories at the Strade Bianche and Milan-San Remo this year, positions him as a leading figure in contemporary cycling.
