Four deaths related to plasma donation have been reported in Canada over the past decade, with three occurring in Manitoba. One victim, 22-year-old Rodiyat Alabede, died after a donation at a Grifols Plasma Donation Centre in October. Health Canada has mandated that plasma collection facilities report serious donor reactions, and an internal review by Grifols found no correlation between donations and the recent deaths. In response to safety concerns, Grifols has adjusted its donation policy to require a minimum 48-hour interval between donations.
