Iran interim leadership council discusses successor to Khamenei

Iran’s interim leadership council, chaired by President Masoud Pezeshkian, convened its fourth meeting to arrange for the Assembly of Experts to select a new supreme leader. Ahmad Khatami, a member of the Assembly, emphasized the urgency of appointing a new leader within the constitutional framework while warning of external threats targeting the Assembly. Pezeshkian reiterated the Islamic Republic’s commitment to peaceful relations with neighboring states, stating that self-defense was necessitated by a recent military attack.
