Canada’s Energy Minister Tim Hodgson announced that the country aims to become one of the world’s largest liquefied natural gas (LNG) suppliers, targeting exports of up to 100 million tonnes annually. Currently, Canadian LNG projects can provide less than 50 million tonnes per year, with ongoing and proposed projects in British Columbia expected to help increase capacity. However, achieving the ambitious goal will require additional developments, as Canada is currently the sixth-largest LNG exporter globally.
