Colombia to resume peace talks with ECG after temporary suspension
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Colombia’s largest criminal group, the Gulf Clan, has resumed peace talks with the government after a temporary pause due to President Gustavo Petro’s pledge to target its leader, Chiquito Malo. The group had expressed concern about a recent deal with the US, but now talks will be mediated by several countries and the Catholic Church. The Gulf Clan, with approximately 9,000 fighters, is one of the country’s largest cartels and has been designated a “foreign terrorist organization” by the US. Trump has pressured Petro to take aggressive action against drug trafficking, highlighting the ongoing challenges in Colombia’s internal conflict as a major election issue in May.
