Monkey-related travel insurance claims have surged by 350% in two years, according to Southern Cross Travel Insurance (SCTI). The 2025 claims report urges holidaymakers to exercise caution when visiting attractions like Bali’s Monkey Forest or Thailand’s Monkey Island. Most claims (78%) were for medical treatment due to monkey bites or scratches, with some involving theft, such as monkeys stealing mobile phones and sunglasses. One case highlighted a child needing rabies shots after being hit in the eye by a monkey.
