At least 20 children were killed in January 2026 in Sudan, primarily in the Kordofan and Darfur regions, according to a UNICEF report. The agency emphasized that millions of children need urgent assistance and protection amid ongoing conflict, with famine confirmed in Al Fasher and Kadugli. The Rapid Support Forces control much of western Darfur, while the Sudanese army holds the majority of other regions, including Khartoum. The conflict, which began in April 2023, has resulted in thousands of deaths and widespread displacement.
