Alberta vetting process restricts sexual education materials for students

Some sexual health education experts and teachers in Alberta are concerned that new provincial approval requirements for educational resources are hindering effective sex education. Since September, all materials for teaching sexual health, sexual orientation, and gender identity must be approved by the education ministry, leading to fears of inadequate teaching. Critics argue that this has resulted in watered-down lessons that may not sufficiently inform students about important topics. As of January, only 164 resources have been approved, with many educators struggling to adapt to the new guidelines.
