Parliament resumed this week with a debate on the Prime Minister’s Statement, during which Labour leader Chris Hipkins used revised Treasury forecasts to criticize the Government’s record. He attempted to motion for a vote of no confidence against the Government, which could have led to the Prime Minister dissolving Parliament and triggering an election. Finance Minister Nicola Willis countered that the revised forecasts were not the coalition’s fault. Ultimately, Hipkins’ motion did not succeed.
