The Music Venue Trust (MVT) has urged the UK government to intervene to save struggling grassroots music venues, as over half reported no profits last year and 30 permanently closed. The MVT’s annual report indicated significant job losses and a shrinking touring circuit. Chief executive Mark Davyd emphasized the need for structural reform and investment, while proposing a grassroots levy to support venues and artists. With funding from this levy expected in 2026, MVT plans to enhance support services to prevent further closures.
