According to Environics Institute polling, 70% of Canadians are satisfied with their democracy, a figure that has remained stable over the past 15 years. While overall trust in democratic institutions is steady, Conservative voter satisfaction has significantly declined, with trust in elections dropping from 43% in 2021 to 25% in 2025. Despite these concerns, a majority still believe democracy is preferable to other government forms, showing resilience in Canadian democratic values. Political scientist Stewart Prest notes that dissatisfaction directed at leaders rather than the system itself is a positive sign for democracy’s health.
