Doug Ford criticizes Carney’s EV tariff deal with China
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Ontario Premier Doug Ford expressed strong opposition to a trade deal announced by Prime Minister Mark Carney that permits a limited number of Chinese electric vehicles into Canada. While Carney touted the agreement as a landmark arrangement for reducing tariffs on Canadian canola exports, Ford warned it could harm Canadian automakers and lead to job losses by flooding the market with cheaper vehicles. He urged Carney to support Ontario’s auto sector by ending the electric vehicle mandate and aligning regulations with trading partners. Analysts also caution that this deal may provoke U.S. President Donald Trump, who has imposed tariffs on Chinese EVs.
