Volunteering at Camp for El-Fasher Displaced People

In December, the author, who was inspired to become a physician by the 2003 Darfur conflict, volunteered at an IDP camp in al-Dabba, Sudan, where the population surged from 2,000 to over 10,000. They encountered heartbreaking stories of individuals like Fatima, a rape survivor; Aisha, a mother who lost her husband; and Khadija, who endured the loss of two children during her escape. The resilience and generosity of the Sudanese people, including local NGO staff like translator Ahmed, deeply impacted the author amidst the ongoing humanitarian crisis.
