Indie Game Awards Withdraws Expedition 33 Prizes

The Indie Game Awards recently retracted the Game of the Year award for Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 due to the developer Sandfall Interactive’s use of generative AI during its development, violating the awards’ strict rules against such practices. The organization also rescinded the Debut Game award for the same title, subsequently awarding Game of the Year to Blue Prince, which was developed without AI assistance. Additionally, the Indie Vanguard award was withdrawn from Gortyn Code for their game Chantey, linked to a controversial publisher. The Indie Game Awards are adapting their policies as generative AI becomes more prevalent in the gaming industry.
