Yemeni separatist group asserts control over southern region
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Yemen’s Southern Transitional Council (STC) has claimed control over all southern provinces, including Aden, the base of the internationally-recognized government, following a military operation named “Promising Future.” STC official Amr al-Bidh stated that the Southern Armed Forces are ensuring protection across the eight governorates and focusing on unifying military efforts. However, the STC’s actions have drawn criticism from Presidential Council head Rashad al-Alimi, who argues they undermine the government’s legitimacy and violate power-sharing agreements. The STC, previously backed by the UAE, has been in control since 2022 amid ongoing civil conflict.
