Arrest in Shooting Death of John Beam

A suspect named Cedric Irving Jr., a 27-year-old former high school football player, was arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of retired “Last Chance U” coach John Beam at Laney College. The two were acquaintances, though their relationship was not close. Beam, who had been the athletic director and football coach at Laney since 2006, passed away from his injuries shortly after the shooting.
