Health authorities in WA are intensifying efforts against a surge in syphilis cases, particularly in the Kimberley, where notifications increased from 59 in 2024 to 87 in 2025. An advertising campaign aims to raise awareness and encourage testing, especially among Aboriginal populations and pregnant women. WA’s chief health officer, Dr. Andrew Robertson, emphasized the importance of early detection to prevent serious health impacts, as the disease can be asymptomatic. The government has allocated $10.7 million to address the outbreak through 2026-27.
