Excavators have discovered the remains of seven infants at the former St Mary’s Home in Tuam, County Galway, a site notorious for its history of child mortality from 1925 to 1961 under the Bon Secours nuns. Local historian Catherine Corless highlighted the tragic fate of these vulnerable children, with a full analysis of the remains anticipated to take up to three months. The site, previously a workhouse and military barracks, has been under excavation since July and may reveal further remains. Testimonies from former residents illustrate the harsh conditions and emotional trauma experienced within the institution.
