Government abandons 2 billion trees target in budget
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The Liberal government has decided to abandon its goal of planting two billion trees by 2031, retaining only its commitment to plant one billion trees, as revealed in the latest budget. This shift comes as Prime Minister Mark Carney initiates a “climate competitiveness strategy,” following the previous termination of key climate policies. Originally announced by Justin Trudeau in 2019, the tree-planting initiative aimed to allocate $3.2 billion over a decade, but the government has struggled to meet its targets. The budget is expected to include significant cuts and changes to tax structures to promote economic growth.
